Madeleine on Tiptoe

2010 I formed hit gelamp in 2010 to devise and perform contemporary shadow theatre. Our first show, Madeleine on Tiptoe premiered at the Holloway Arts Festival. We went on to perform it in the Old Vic Tunnels, St Mary’s Islington, Christ Church Highbury and the Pleasance Theatre as part of the Little Angel Theatre’s SUSPENSE festival of adult puppetry. The role of Pierre Janet was initially played by John Dodgson with whom I devised the show. Puppeteer Chand Martinez took over the role at the Pleasance and together we reworked the piece to use a magic lantern on loan from Richard Rigby at the Magic Lantern Society.

Crossing Borders

2016 This show was inspired by the life and work of surrealist painter Leonora Carrington. Artist and puppeteer Sabrina Recoules-Quang and I worked with students in Puppetry at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama to develop a few scenes. This was developed as part of INCUBATE and shown at the Boiler Room in the Pleasance Theatre.

Summerland

2011 hit gelamp’s second project was a piece exploring 19th mediums, fakery and magic cabinets. Devised with Angeliki Polatou and performed as a ‘scratch’ piece in the Hatch festival at the Little Angel Theatre.

A Tale from the Stars

2015 This show was inspired by the tales of Ovid and commissioned by the Concordia Foundation and performed to an audience of East End primary schools at Toynbee Hall.
